If you are benefiting from DentalMonitoring+, you can now set custom goals directly within protocols, giving you even more flexibility in tracking patient progress based on individualized treatment objectives.
What Are Custom Goals?
Custom goals are new goal types that can be activated in your protocols under the Custom Measures section in the Goal category. These goals help you to tailor tracking and instructions specific to your practice’s needs and patient treatments.
Available Custom Goal Types
There are three types of custom goals:
Expansion
Opening/Closing of Spaces
Other
Just like standard goals, for each goal you can:
Set a default delay period and deadline
Add team instructions
Add a patient message (optional)
How to Start a Custom Goal
Unlike standard goals, custom goals must be started directly from a custom measure in the 3D Viewer.
To start a custom goal:
Open the 3D Viewer and select a custom measure.
Click the play arrow icon to start tracking a goal.
Fill in the required fields:
Custom goal type: Choose from Expansion, Opening/Closing of Space, or Other.
Target measure: Define the target distance or value to be achieved.
Deadline: Defaults to this value are defined in the protocol but can be adjusted.
Tracking Custom Goal Progress
Once a custom goal is active, progress is tracked and displayed in two places:
3D Viewer: Shows the current measurement and target value.
Patient Card’s Goal Panel: Displays the goal type and associated teeth number.
Editing a Goal
Goal Type and Target Value cannot be modified after the goal starts. You will need to stop and restart the goal to make these changes.
The deadline can be edited directly from the patient card.
Stopping a Goal
A custom goal can be stopped from either the 3D Viewer or the Patient Card.
Stopping a goal does not delete the associated custom measure.
Goal Statuses: Achieved or Overdue
Achieved
When a goal is reached:
A notification appears in the Notification Center.
The goal is removed from the Patient Card.
Please note: if a goal is achieved during the delay period you will not be notified.
Overdue
If the goal has exceeded the deadline:
A notification is sent to the Notification Center.
The goal remains visible in the Patient Card, marked as “Overdue.”
You can choose to stop the goal or edit the deadline.
Considerations for Custom Goals
Custom goals are based on custom measurements in the 3D Viewer, therefore they have some limitations:
New IOS Upload: If a new IOS is uploaded during monitoring, existing custom measures cannot be tracked. You’ll be prompted to retake the measurement and reset any associated goals.
Deleted Custom Measure: If you delete a custom measure, the linked goal is automatically cancelled. You will receive a warning to confirm the action.
Scan Issues: If a measure cannot be calculated in a scan (e.g., due to poor photo quality or tooth visibility), the measurement and goal will not be triggered.
