External Software Link – PMS or Treatment Planning Software

The External Software Link lets you open a patient’s record in your PMS or treatment planning software directly from the DentalMonitoring dashboard. You will not need to switch tabs and search manually. With one click from the patient card, you’re taken straight to the correct patient in your external system.

  • Or you can request it using this link

⚠️ Please note: The external software must be web-based to be supported.

How to use the external software link

Step 1: Add an external software link to a patient

To add a link:

  1. Open a patient card

  2. Next to the patient’s profile ID, click Add link

  3. A modal opens: "Add a link for [patient name]"

  4. Select your external software from the dropdown (only active, supported softwares appear; the last-used one is pre-selected)

  5. Paste the full URL of this patient's page in the external software

  6. Click Save

Pro tip: If the URL doesn’t match the domain of the selected external software, an error will appear. Copy the URL directly from your browser while on the correct patient page in the external software.

Step 2: Open the external record in one click

Once an external software link is saved:

  • The software logo will appear next to the patient’s profile ID

  • Click the logo → the patient page opens instantly in a new tab

  • The Add a link text is replaced by the logo

Step 3: Edit or remove a link

  • Go to the Links tab in the patient card

  • Find the relevant link

  • Click Edit link

  • You can:

    • Update the URL

    • Delete the link


FAQ

Who can manage external software links?

Any user with a Doctor, Practice Employee or Admin role can add, edit, or remove External software links.

Can a patient be linked to multiple software?

Yes. A patient can have multiple External software links (e.g. PMS + treatment planning software). All links will appear in the Links tab.

My PMS is integrated with DM but not available in the list. Why?

If your PMS is not web-based, redirection from DM is not yet possible. This feature may become available later with additional development from the integrated platform. Once supported, the link would be automatically added upon patient creation in DM.

What URL should I paste in the link field?

Paste the direct URL of the patient's page in the external software, copy it from your browser's address bar while on that patient's record. The URL must match the domain of the selected software; an error will appear if it doesn't.

What if I click the logo and land on an error page?

The link may be outdated or incorrect. Go to the Links tab, click "Edit link", and update the URL.

Does adding an External software link change anything in my PMS? No. The External software link is one-directional, it stores the URL so you can navigate there from the DM dashboard. It does not create, modify, or sync any data in your external software.

Is this available on my practice app?

No, the External software link is currently not available on the practice app
