Pre-annotated Photos: AI draws the boxes, you send

What it is

When a scan is processed, AI detects clinical issues and draws boxes on every photo where the issue is visible. You pick the photo, choose which boxes to show, and send. No more drawing by hand.

AI detects four types of issues, at slight or noticeable severity:

  • Gingivitis

  • Aligner unseats

  • Open clips on brackets

  • Hygiene issues

How to use it

  1. Open a scan from the patient card and click to send a photo. The Send Photo editor opens.

  2. The photo is on the left. On the right, Review findings lists every notification from the scan.

  3. Hover over a finding to preview its box. Click it to keep the box on the photo. Click again to remove it.

  4. Pick the photo you want to send. Boxes appear on every photo where the issue is visible.

  5. Adjust if needed (see below).

  6. Click Attach to message to send it to the patient, or Download to save it.

Reading the Review findings panel

Findings are grouped by severity: Alert, Warning, Info, Silent. Each one shows the teeth concerned, for example "Noticeable unseat: 1.2, 2.2".

  • White card with a colored bar: a box is available. Click to show or hide it.

  • Grey card: listed for information, no box available.

  • Silent: shown for context only.

Edit the boxes

Boxes are square or rectangular. On each box, you can:

  • Resize it

  • Move it

  • Delete it

  • Change its color for this photo only

To change the color for all future photos, set it in My Account > Pre-annotations.

You can also add your own annotations with the manual tools, such as text or other shapes.

Set your preferences in My Account

Go to My Account > Pre-annotations. Settings are grouped in four categories: Aligners, Braces, Hygiene and Retention.

  • Choose a color for each category. Every observation in that category shows in a shade of it, so you can tell issues apart at a glance.

  • Use the Active toggle on each observation to decide how its box appears on the photo:

    • Off (default): the box only shows when you hover over the finding. Click the finding to keep it on the photo.

    • On: the box is always on the photo. No click needed.

Use Activate: all or none to switch every toggle in a category at once.

Changes you make in the editor apply to that photo only.

Good to know

  • AI prepares, you decide. Nothing is sent without your choice.

  • For other issues, annotate manually as usual.

FAQ

Is anything sent automatically?

No. You choose the photo, the boxes and when to send.

Boxes only show when I hover. Is that normal?

Yes, that's the default. Click the finding to keep the box, or turn on the Active toggle in My Account to always show it.

A box is in the wrong place. What do I do?

Move, resize or delete it before sending. And report it to the DM so that we could look into that.

Why is a finding grey?

No box is available for it on this scan. Annotate it manually if needed.

Can I change a box color?

Yes. Change it on the photo for a one-off, or in My Account to change the default.
