Patients’ scan interval can now be set to automatically change according to their aligners’ patients’ tracking / response to treatment.

1. What’s Adaptive Scan Interval?

Scan interval is the frequency at which a patient should take their scans, and in the case of an aligner treatment, defines how long a patient should wear their aligners.

For aligner patients, depending on patient and case difficulty, you use different scan intervals. Sometimes you also adapt it along the treatment if needed based on how well the treatment is tracking.

Up until now, changing scan interval had to be done manually on the platform. With adaptive scan interval, it is now possible to automate this change directly through the Quickstart, or from the patient card.

⚠️ This functionality is only available for patients with Dynamic Aligner Change (DAC) enabled.

This automation aims to reduce manual work for yourself and your staff, and allows you to provide a more tailored monitoring to your patients.

2. How to configure Adaptive Scan Interval?

You can activate and configure adaptive scan interval from:

  • The start monitoring steps (outside of a Quickstart)

  • The start monitoring steps (outside of a Quickstart)

  • The patient card, at any time during your patient's monitoring

Configuring adaptive scan interval requires you to define:

  1. The number of days the scan interval should be decreased by when a patient has received a defined number of GO’s in a row.

  2. The number of days the scan interval should be increased by when a patient has received a defined number of NO-GO’s in a row.

  3. Whether these rules apply to the first x aligners (up to 10) or to the whole treatment.

⚠️Please note: if an adaptive scan frequency rule has been set-up for your patient, when the patient has reached the defined number of NO-GOs in a row, the new scan frequency will override the follow-up scan after NO-GO. This means your patient’s next scan after the NO-GO will be the new Scan Frequency length.

Once these are defined, you still have the ability to modify the adaptive scan interval set up for your patients throughout their treatment, from their patient card!

⚠️ Please note: Pausing/unpausing patients’ monitoring will not affect adaptive scan interval, however stopping/starting monitoring will apply the new rules associated with the chosen quickstart.
