What is an additional scan?

Additional scans are a quick and easy way to see what’s happening in the patient’s mouth outside of their regular scan schedule.

They can be requested by the practice or by the patient and they help you to make decisions concerning your patient’s treatment without the need of an emergency appointment. They can help you to improve the patient-practice communication and be more efficient by avoiding unnecessary appointments.

Please note: Additional scans are not assessed by the AI analysis: no clinical observations will be detected, thus no automated patient nor team instructions will be triggered. Once the patient has taken the scan, it will be available in approximately 10 minutes for the practice to review and send a follow-up message if they want to.

How to request an additional scan?

Scan request by the practice:

  • Go to the patient card and click on the New action button located on the top right corner.

  • Select Ask patient for an additional scan from the menu displayed.

  • You can also send an additional message to your patient along with the request.

Scan request by the patient:

  • Patients can request an additional scan directly from the patient app by tapping their profile tab and scrolling down to the additional scan option.

  • Once selected, the patient needs to specify the reason for the request, which will be available for the practice review along with the additional scan.

How to review an additional scan?

From the dashboard:

Once the patient has taken the additional scan, you can review it under the Additional scans tab on the Notifications center by clicking on "view scan".

From the Practice App:

The additional scan will be available under the Additional scans section on the Practice App’s homepage.
